A Hopeful Space support

Free Online Platform

You can access the online resources from ‘A Hopeful Space’ for free.
The resources on this platform are helpful for you:

  • If you feel you need more information on your difficulties and want to learn new ways how to manage them.
  • If you are currently waiting for therapy and want to already make a start by educating yourself and learning new coping skills.

All the resources are evidence based and will give you new ways to reflect on how you feel. Due to it being online and self guided, you can access this from the comfort of your home and at your own pace. These resources aren’t a replacement for therapy but rather a way to practice helpful coping strategies and learning how your difficulties affect you.

Free Therapy Options

Talking therapies, or psychological therapies, are effective and confidential treatments delivered by fully trained and accredited NHS practitioners. They can help with common mental health problems like stress, anxiety and depression.

You can access talking therapies for free on the NHS.

You can refer yourself directly to an NHS talking therapies service without a referral from a GP, or a GP can refer you.

NHS talking therapies services are also known as Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services.

Help is available in person, by video, over the phone or as an online course.

The Hub of Hope is the UK’s leading mental health support database. It is provided by national mental health charity, Chasing the Stigma, and brings local, national, peer, community, charity, private and NHS mental health support and services together in one place for the first time.

Private Therapy

Private therapy can be helpful if you feel that the wait for free therapy is too long or if you the means to pay for this.
There are many options out there, but it is always best to check the below options. This will mean that you will get a therapist or counsellor that is accredited through a professional body and has had to meet certain quality standards before being able to join. The registers also contain contact information and in some cases how much a therapist or counsellor charges per session.

I need help now!

Mental health crisis helplines are a valuable resource for anyone who is experiencing a mental health crisis. They provide immediate support and assistance to you and they can help to connect you with the resources you need to manage their mental health in the long term. If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, calling a crisis helpline can be an important first step in getting the help and support you need. In addition to this, I also want to urge you to install the R;pple Suicide Prevention app. This is an organisation that helps people discretely by intercepting harmful searches and providing signposting to 24/7, free mental health support at a time when you are most vulnerable.
